Pre-vocational employment skills are important for students to learn, understand and practice in preparation for vocational education. Learning proper employment etiquette such as being a good employee, appropriate career attire, hygiene, organization, timeliness, co-worker cooperation etc. is essential to employment success.
When pre-vocational employment skills are learned, students participate in vocational education within our Life Skills classroom. Many different occupations are explored. Students research and discuss information pertaining to these careers including; education or training required, salary, dress code, job setting, work schedule, and job responsibilities. Students gain a wealth of knowledge of different career options.
To enhance the student experience, we offer in-school simulated work environments including a, grocery/clothing store, office setting, garden center and restaurant. Students gain perspective on the different roles within each environment: manager, cashier, clerk, receptionist, and customer as they matriculate through each work area. They are then able to build a resume of skills as they learn, practice and perform the duties of each role.
